Barangay Chairpersons, VAW Desk Officers, and Local Committees Against Trafficking and VAWC in 8 Regions Capacitated on Handling GBV/VAW Cases
The Philippine Commission on Women, in partnership with the Inter-Agency Council on Violence Against Women and their Children (IACVAWC), carried out a series of capacity-building activities for Barangay VAW Desk Officers, Chairpersons, and select LCAT-VAWC representatives of Laguna, Benguet, Leyte, Cebu, Negros Oriental, Davao Del Sur, South Cotabato, and Nueva Ecija. Spearheaded by the Council Secretariat, the training helped enhance the participants’ knowledge and skills in delivering survivor-centered and gender-sensitive services to VAW victim-survivors. It also enabled participants to discuss strategies to strengthen the coordination within local mechanisms with the support of their respective local government units.
A Facilitator’s Manual was also developed and piloted by PCW to guide trainer-facilitators on how to deliver the content of the modules, particularly on the nature and causes of GBV/VAW, the rights, remedies, services, and facilities available for victim-survivors, the duties and protocols for gender-responsive case management, and the functions of local mechanisms. Inputs and experiences gathered from the participants, Council Secretariat, and Trainer-Facilitators in the training also supplemented the enhancement of the manual.
